LEO Foundation – Dr. Abildgaard Fellowship (2027–2032)
Light-Activated Micromotors for Biofilm Eradication in Hidradenitis Suppurativa
- Funding
- LEO Foundation – Dr. Abildgaard Fellowship (DKK 12 million)
- Role
- Principal Investigator (PI)
- Host Institution
- Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Denmark
This project aims to develop light-activated micromotors capable of navigating the complex skin tunnels associated with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and disrupting persistent bacterial biofilms. By combining advanced microfabrication, near-infrared light-driven propulsion, and clinically relevant skin models, the research seeks to establish a novel, minimally invasive approach to treating chronic inflammatory skin disease.
Lundbeck Foundation – Experiment Grant (2026–2029)
Micromotor-Powered Nose-to-Brain Drug Delivery
- Funding
- Lundbeck Foundation – Experiment Grant (DKK 2.3 million)
- Role
- Principal Investigator (PI)
- Host Institution
- Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Denmark
This project explores the potential of self-propelled micro- and nanomotors to overcome biological barriers and enhance direct drug delivery from the nasal cavity to the brain. By developing autonomous, biocompatible micromotors, the research aims to improve the transport of therapeutic compounds to the central nervous system, opening new possibilities for non-invasive treatment of neurological disorders.
SFRS–DIASPORA – NIMPHA
Near-infrared Light Driven Nanomotors for Photothermal Transport Across the Cell Membrane
- Funding
- SFRS–DIASPORA, Republic of Serbia (approximately €20,000)
- Role
- International Project Partner (Project Partner from Diaspora)
- Principal Investigator
- Dr Dušan K. Božanić, Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, University of Belgrade, Serbia
The NIMPHA project aims to develop near-infrared light-driven nanomotors for enhanced intracellular drug delivery, exploring their potential to transport therapeutic cargo directly across cell membranes while bypassing conventional endosomal pathways.
