Application deadline: 26 October 2026 (23:59 Danish time). Read the full call and apply on DTU’s job portal.
Are you passionate about microrobotics, nanotechnology and innovative biomedical technologies? We are looking for a motivated postdoc to develop near-infrared (NIR) light-driven micromotors that break through bacterial biofilms, toward new treatments for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic inflammatory skin disease.
You will join DYNAMO within the interdisciplinary IDUN research section at DTU Health Tech, and take a leading role in the project, at the interface of micro/nanotechnology, drug delivery, biomaterials and disease modelling. The aim is a new active drug-delivery strategy for HS, with broader insights into treating biofilm-associated infections.
What you will do
- Design and fabricate NIR light-activated micromotors with efficient propulsion
- Characterise their motion, stability, penetration and drug release in biofilm-relevant environments
- Evaluate biofilm penetration, disruption and local drug delivery in vitro
- Contribute to in vivo validation in relevant HS or biofilm-associated disease models
- Evaluate antibacterial activity, drug penetration and overall therapeutic efficacy
- Co-supervise M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, and share the results through publications and conferences
Who we are looking for
- A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in pharmaceutical sciences, nanotechnology, chemistry, materials science, biomedical engineering or a closely related field
- Strong hands-on experience in the design, fabrication and characterisation of micro- and/or nanomotors
- A background in functional materials, surface engineering or drug delivery is highly desirable. Experience with light-responsive or NIR-activated systems, biofilms, bacterial models, drug penetration or antimicrobial studies, and ex vivo or in vivo models, is an advantage
- An independent, highly motivated researcher with a strong publication record
The position
- Duration: 2 years, full time
- Start: 1 February 2027, or by agreement
- Salary and terms: based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations
How to apply
Apply online through DTU’s job portal by 26 October 2026 (23:59 Danish time), with all your materials in English in one PDF file: cover letter, CV, academic diplomas (M.Sc./Ph.D.) and list of publications. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
